Steps for Recording and Editing Podcasts (Erin Lepp, USD Tech Fellow, 2009)
1. Configure Your Microphone
a. Start
b. Control Panel
c. Speech
d. Configure Microphone
e. Follow the directions on screen
2. Open Audacity
3. Click Record (Red Circle)
4. Talk into the microphone
5. When finished, click stop (Yellow Box)
6. Save as audacity file
7. Amplify the sound if necessary
a. Select All-Control A
b. Effect
c. Amplify
8. Edit the Podcast
a. Play it back (Green Triangle)
b. To delete a portion of the podcast, stop the podcast. Highlight the portion to delete and click delete
9. Inserting Introduction/Conclusion
a. Click at the beginning of the track so that the cursor line is towards the beginning. Unplug the microphone. Click Record so you record no noise.
b. Now, open the introduction music and copy it
c. Paste it into the current podcast in the audio track you just recorded blank noise in
d. For the ending, do the same as above, just towards the end of the podcast
10. To Produce:
a. File
b. Export as MP3
c. Decide where to save it and push Save
d. Enter the applicable information about the podcast
e. Click OK
11. Editing the Feed
a. Create xml file in notepad
12. Upload the feed and the podcast
