Dictionaries usually supply the spelling, meaning, etymology, pronunciation and usage of words. In science dictionaries, however, it is not unusual for pronunciation and etymology to be omitted. Language dictionaries, which may be bilingual or multilingual are, rarely list word meanings. Encyclopedic dictionaries include short discussions, which become useful when terms have various meanings in different subject areas. Dictionaries are considered 2nd literature.
