Encyclopedias provide general informative articles to a variety of subject topics. Most science and engineering encyclopedias follow a logical order--definition, relation to other topics, history, discussion and bibliography. Researchers use encyclopedias to acquaint themselves with unfamiliar general topics. Information in encyclopedias is usually out-of-date at the time they are published. Encyclopedias are 2nd literature.
