Scope and Contents

The Arthur Leslie Keith Collection is made up of materials Dr. Keith composed during his academic years.  Most were written during his tenure at the University of South Dakota and Carlton College.  The materials focus on the Greek and Roman culture.  The collection contains three series: Manuscripts, Printed Materials and Typescripts.

The Manuscripts series contains hand written articles.  The Introduction to DeAmicitia is a work in several parts.

The Printed Materials contains a news Bulletin for Carleton College in which the article, The Case for Latin is printed.  Also included is the program for the Centennial Celebration where Dr. Keith gave the address Centennial of the Liberation of Greece.  A copy of the address is also filed in the Typescript series.

The Typescripts contain writings, lecture notes, speeches, and addresses given by Dr, Keith.  Many of the Typescripts have hand written corrections or added notes.  On several of the Typescripts, Dr. Keith states where and when the addresses or speeches were given.  Of Special interest is a copy of His master’s thesis, Character Types in Plautus.
