Preprints are key players in the scholarly communication process within the sciences. These are research papers submitted for comment and review among peers, for publication in journals, or prior to being presented at a conference. These papers give peers or prospective conference attendees the opportunity to read and prepare for informal discussions on the work being presented. A large percent of preprints will be published in the journal literature. The electronic equivalents of preprints are called e-prints. Preprints are 1o literature.
