The purpose of this guide is to organize the most relevant USD Library resources for students, staff and faculty within the discipline of Music.

Audio & Video Formats

The University Libraries has recordings in all formats: VHS, DVD and audio cassettes, LPs, and CDs, and online streaming audio. The online library catalog's description of many of these items and their call numbers will let you know what an item is.

Met Opera on Demand: Student access.

Access is limited to 5 simultaneous users; if you experience a turn-away, please check back. Contains 500+ streaming videos of operas performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. More recent performances are available in HD. This database includes a backfile of telecasts and radio broadcasts going back to 1935. Every opera includes an English synopsis, with synopses in multiple languages available for many operas. Includes interviews with performers and creators as available.

Online Streaming Audio

The Naxos Music Library is the most comprehensive collection of classical music online and offers the complete Naxos, Marco Polo and Da Capo catalogues as well as Jazz and World music, educational products and a growing range of historical recordings featuring the biggest performers in the history of classical music. Multiple users can simultaneously listen to the same content or different contents at the same time.

Instructor Information!

  • Instructional videos for creating Playlists are available on YouTube.  You can watch Creating a Student Playlist Account and  Building Playlists.  See "How to Create Playlists in Naxos" below for more info.
  • After you have created a student playlist you can add the Naxos Music Library app to your iPhone or iPod Touch or iPad and access all of the music available.  See the Naxos Blog for more information.

How to Create Playlists in Naxos

Create an Account

  1. Access Naxos Music Library from the University Libraries website.
  2. Click on "Playlists" in the gray bar.

    Click playlists

  3. Click "Sign up" on the right side.
  4. Fill out the registration form. You'll get an email to confirm your account.

Create a Playlist

  1. Access Naxos Music Library from the University Libraries website.
  2. Sign in to your account from the "Playlists" screen.
  3. Find a CD to add to your playlist.
  4. Select the tracks you want to add by clicking the box to the left of the track title or click "Select All."

  5. Click "Add to Playlist."
    1. Adding track(s) to an existing playlist: On the Select Location section, choose from “Tab” then from “Folder” and then select the “Playlist”. Click “Add to Playlist” to add tracks to the selected playlist.
    2. To create a new playlist: On the Save to New Playlist section, type the new playlist name in “Playlist Name”, define author and enter remarks. Click “Add to Playlist” to create the playlist.
  6. Your playlists will be listed when you login to the Naxos iPhone app.

Persistent Links in NAXOS

The URL in your address bar is NOT a persistent link.

To make persistent links appear, first click Show Static URL on the left side of the screen. Then copy the URL under the name of the track you want to link to.
