What is Making Art Work?

What is this project?

A visual art-making event open to student, faculty and community art makers, in which artists are given 7 hours to make an artwork, from start to finish, followed later by an exhibition showcasing the products of this event.

What is the purpose of this project?

The purpose of the event is to challenge artists to work within a tight deadline and to expose library visitors to the process of creativity. Event participants and visitors will get the opportunity to engage in conversations about the processes of creativity and visual art making, current cultural topics and other stimulating discussions. Event spectators and exhibition visitors will develop a deeper understanding of Libraries’ commitment to diverse academic and artistic pursuits, as well as facilitating execution of cultural community events. In order to broaden patrons’ understanding and appreciation of the University Libraries’ mission, this exhibit would strengthen participants’ knowledge of Libraries’ support of their intellectual research.

FAQ

Are there materials or techniques I cannot use?

Due to Muenster University Center rules and regulations, we cannot allow toxic chemicals or hazardous processes. These impermissable materials and techniques include but are not limited to oil paints, welding, etc. We apologize for the restrictions, but the MUC is not outfitted for regular artistic practice, with special ventilation or safety measures. If you have any questions about what you're hoping to work on during the event, please email danielle.loftus@usd.edu.

Do I need to hang my work in the exhibition?

Nope, we'll take care of that for you! If you will require special hanging materials or methods, we may need your assistance in the installation. Please let us know as soon as possible. Danielle.Loftus@usd.edu

When will I get my artwork back?

We are proud to showcase the products of the event on the west wing of the 2nd floor of the University Libraries from Friday, March 28 - Friday, April 26 during library hours. Artwork will be available for you to pick up from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. during April 29 - May 3 (Finals Week). Any work not picked up by Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m. will become property of the University Libraries. If you require special accommodations for pick up, please email danielle.loftus@usd.edu
