Another way to broaden your search results is to use a truncation symbol. A truncation symbol tells the database to find words that have the same beginning (prefix and/or stem) regardless of the ending (suffix). For instance, by typing in teach*, the database will interpret the truncation symbol * and retrieve any item that includes variations on the stem teach including teacher, teaching, and teaches.
Different databases use different truncation symbols. Some commonly used truncation symbols are *, ?, +, and !. Academic Search Premier uses the * (asterisk) as its truncation symbol.
