USD Information Literacy Lessons: Page 23

The broad focus of these lessons is understanding sources of information, including examples that can help you learn how to access information sources at USD. Each lesson is dedicated to a specific element of information competency.

Database Exercise

In this tutorial you have learned several different ways to search for information in a database including keyword, phrase, and subject searches. You have also learned that the Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT can be used to create a search using multiple search terms. Using the truncation symbol can help you broaden your search while limiters such as full text, publications, and publication dates allow you to narrow your search results.

You are now ready to complete the online database IL exercise. You will need to log into your Desire2Learn page then click on the link "Freshmen English Information Literacy Exercises." Select the appropriate exercise from the list of the 5 lesson exercises.
