USD Information Literacy Lessons: Page 32

The broad focus of these lessons is understanding sources of information, including examples that can help you learn how to access information sources at USD. Each lesson is dedicated to a specific element of information competency.

Rules of Thumb when using Web Resources

  • Understand the medium and its limitations.
  • Choose the best and most specific means of access (a Library subject guide or research database is faster and more reliable than a search engine).
  • Be critical, skeptical, and visually literate.
  • If in doubt, ask a librarian or other expert for help and guidance.
