Endnote

This guide will lead you through the process of downloading, installing, and setting up Endnote on your computer.

Groups

Groups – You can set up “Group Sets” which contain several groups (Note that you must have at least one Group Set).

You will have a default Group Set when you open EndNote for the first time.

You can add groups to this set, rename the Group Set, or create new Group Sets.

From the “Groups” link on the menubar you can:

Create a new Group Set

Create a new Group

Create a new Smart Group

 

Group Set – Select “Create Group Set” from the “Group” menu.

 

 

Name Group Set – To name or rename your Group Set(s):

Double click on the Group Set name.

Enter the new name.

 

Smart Group – Select “Create Smart Group” from the “Group” menu OR Right click on the “Group Set” and select “Create Smart Group.”

 

Adding References – Name your new “Smart Group.”

Select the fields you want to use to search for references.

Enter your search terms.

Click on “Create” to complete the process.

NOTE – This process will automatically add all references matching your search terms to your Smart Group.

 

Group – Select “Create Group” from the “Group” menu OR Right click on the “Group Set” and select “Create Group.”

Name Group – Type in the name of your new “Group.”

Check to make sure that your new “Group” is in the correct “Group Set.”

 

Searching References – Select “All References” from “My Library.”

Click on the “Search” tab below the references window.

Select the fields you want to use to search for references.

Enter your search terms.

Click “Search” to start your reference search.

 

Adding References – Click on “Search Results” in “My Library.”

Select either individual references (Ctrl + Click) or all of the references (Ctrl +A).

Right click on a highlighted reference.

Select “Add References To” and then the correct group name.

This will move your selected references to your desired group.
