Interlibrary Loan Services

Interlibrary Loan services remain open with limited staffing and services during the library closure. Below are answers to questions you might have. For anything else please email your question to ill@usd.edu and the staff will respond as soon as they can.

FAQ

Can we still submit interlibrary loan requests?

Until further notice we are not processing requests to borrow physical materials from other libraries due to the extensive number of libraries that are closed and/or providing limited services. Requests for articles may still be submitted.

I have interlibrary loan items checked out that are due soon or overdue. What should I do?

If it is still before the due date you may logon to ILLiad and submit a renewal request. To check the status of interlibrary loan items logon to the ILLiad system and click on Checked Out Items under View in the left-hand menu. In order to request a renewal click on the transaction number and then look for the renewal option at the top of the next page.

I received notification that an item I requested is available for pickup at the circulation desk, but I am unable to pick it up, what should I do?

If you will not need the item, please indicate this via email to ill@usd.edu  so the item can be returned for you as soon as possible. If you still need the item you do not need to do anything. It will be held at the circulation desk. However, if the due date is approaching you should go ahead and submit a renewal request via ILLiad. In order to request a renewal click on the transaction number and then look for the renewal option at the top of the next page.

I have interlibrary loan items checked out that are now overdue, what should I do?

If it past the due date, ILLiad will not allow you to submit a renewal request but you can email the information including the transaction number to ill@usd.edu and we can manually submit a renewal request on your behalf.

I have interlibrary loan items checked out and the renewal request has been denied, what should I do? 

Send an email with the relevant transaction number and a brief description of the situation to ill@usd.edu and staff will advise how to proceed on a case by case basis.
