Using Micromaterials in the University Libraries

This is a guide for locating, viewing, and scanning various micromaterials located in the University Libraries.

When to Search for Micromaterials...

Focusing a search on what is available in our micromaterial collection is helpful when searching for "primary sources", especially newspapers, periodicals, documents, diaries, and manuscripts.

While many of our micromaterials are older, historical sources, we currently receive newspapers, documents, and other items in microform on a regular basis.

Advanced Searching

To locate micromaterials in the online catalog, start by conducting an advanced search in the Library Catalog.

On the search page, enter any relevant keywords in the boxes under the heading "advanced search: search for words." Then, under the heading labeled "Optional Limits," select "Microforms" from the "Collection" menu and click "Search."catalog search

The results which are then displayed will be limited to items which appear in microform. Click the "Different Formats" tab at the top of this page to learn about how to tell which format is which when looking over the results of your search.
