Freshman English Information Literacy Instructors' Guide

This toolkit is intended to support information literacy instruction in Freshman English (ENGL 101 and UHON 110) classes. It provides resources for use by library faculty and teaching faculty.

Information Literacy Lessons

Information literacy is a set of skills that allow people to find, evaluate, and use information appropriately, ethically, and legally.  These skills are important to satisfy personal and professional information needs.

The ENGL 101 IL lessons consist of five lessons that teach the basics of research and appropriate use of information.

Information Literacy Exercises

After you have completed an IL lesson, go to Desire2Learn and complete the exercise that corresponds to the lesson.  You may attempt each exercise three times, and the highest score counts.
