ARTstor is a nonprofit digital library with a database of more than one million images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences that are available for educational and research purposes. The collections in ARTstor have been contributed by several museums, photographers, libraries, scholars, photo archives, and artists and artists' estates.
-How to get started (UT Austin)
Just like other resources, when using images in your own work it's important to cite what you've used and where you found it.
Don't know how? See some examples of the citation process using MLA citation style.
If you are a USD instructor or teaching assistant and would like ARTstor instructor privileges, please contact Danielle Loftus.
When you are using ARTstor, you are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Use, which ask you to limit your use of ARTstor images to non-commercial, educational, and scholarly activities.
For example, you may download a copy of an ARTstor image to illustrate a research paper or include in a classroom presentation.
You may not post an ARTstor image on an unrestricted web site that is not password-protected or access-restricted. For further guidance on the Permitted and Prohibited Uses of ARTstor images, please see their page on Terms and Conditions of Use.
Some images include the "IAP" note below the image. These images have additional permissions for academic publications. Read about the IAP initiative for further information.
