About the USD DLSD collections and our guiding principles

ABOUT THE COLLECTIONS

Through the Digital Library of South Dakota and for purposes of teaching, learning, and research, the University Libraries makes available and exhibits a wide range of scholarly, cultural, and historical resources that are within the collecting scopes of Archives and Special Collections, the South Dakota Oral History Center, and the University Galleries exhibit program in I.D. Weeks Library.

The University Libraries strives to ensure the integrity and authenticity of all historical and cultural resources in its care, and thus public access to materials through the Digital Library of South Dakota preserves, insofar as possible, the origin, social and historical context, or perspective of those responsible for their creation. Likewise, the University Libraries recognizes that the content of some resources is offensive for reasons of how individuals and groups are portrayed and stereotyped. Such depictions, cultural misappropriations, and other offenses are not condoned by the University Libraries.

The University Libraries values dialog regarding the preservation, description, and access to the resources and collections for which it is responsible. The USD community and public are invited to raise questions and recommendations at library@usd.edu.
