The broad focus of these lessons is understanding sources of information, including examples that can help you learn how to access information sources at USD. Each lesson is dedicated to a specific element of information competency.

Boolean Operators - AND

The Boolean operator terms AND, OR, & NOT can be used to retrieve information using multiple search terms.

The most common Boolean operator is AND. Using the operator AND tells the database to search for items that contain all of the search terms. For instance, the results for a search of school AND violence would contain both the terms school and violence. The Boolean operator is circled in red.
