Art & Art History

Gateway into art and art history resources at USD

There are several types of information available to Art students through the University Libraries, both in print form and electronically.

Reference Books This covers encyclopedias, atlases, and other resources that are referred to for specific information. Go to these for definitions and shorter explanations.
Books A book can provide detailed background and historical information. Books are a place to check for information that is generally accepted in the field.
Articles Articles from journals and magazines are the primary source for recent research in a field. Most cutting-edge research will appear in articles first. University Libraries databases can help connect you to these articles.
Web Sites The internet can provide a wealth of information, especially from government sources and from professional organizations

1. Start at the University Libraries homepage.
