USD Information Literacy Lessons: Page 13

The broad focus of these lessons is understanding sources of information, including examples that can help you learn how to access information sources at USD. Each lesson is dedicated to a specific element of information competency.

Boolean Operators - OR

OR is another Boolean operator that can be used in a database. Using OR will tell the database to search either of the search terms typed in. It is particularly helpful for searching synonyms or related terms. For instance, the search "school OR campus" would find items that contain either one of the two terms. Because OR finds information with either term, it produces a broader search than when you use AND. The Boolean operator is circled in red.
