If you would like to use a database logo for your guides, (you don't want to create a widget), please follow the steps for adding images from the Web listed in our "Help!" LibGuide.

After you insert the database logo, you could add the url of the database to this icon at this time. See the Add/Edit Boxes tab and links underneath that tab in our Help! guide for the options in the many types of contect boxes.

When embedded in a D2L course page or LibGuide, widgets allow your students to connect to and search research databases through a USD proxy server. Students can begin their search directly from your course website. Simply put, it makes finding scholarly journal articles much easier for you and your students!

Here's how to put a widget on your page:

1. First decide what database you would like to include. You can browse through the completed widgets by selecting any of the tabs above (e.g., A, B, C-D, etc).

2. Copy the HTML code provided for the widget you want to use.

3. Open your course homepage on D2L, LibGuides, or another web-editing program. Switch to the HTML view:

• D2L
  • On the main page for the course, select the pencil icon for one of the boxes (News, Course info, etc).
  • Select the icon on the bottom left of the content input box to edit the HTML source. The icon looks like a rectangle with a small globe.
  • Paste the widget code in the HTML input area.
  • Select "Update."
  • Select "Save."
    

• LibGuides
  • Create a new box or click "edit text" in a preexisting text box.
  • Once the Rich Text Editor pops up, select "Plain-Text Editor."
  • Paste the widget code in the HTML input area.
  • Select "Save and Close."
