ORCID

ORCID is a not-for-profit organization; its name is an acronym which stands for "Open Research and Contributor ID."  An ORCID identifier is a unique personal ID. Using an ORCID iD will uniquely distinguish you and your contributions whether you change your name, begin work at a different institution, move to another country, or retire.

Creating your ORCID profile:

  • Registering for an ORCID iD is free.  Go to https://orcid.org/register
  • You should receive a welcome message from ORCID which asks you to verify your e-mail address.
  • Fill in the Biography information (e.g., employment, education, membership and services, funding, works, etc.).
  • Select your visibility and notification settings.
  • You can link DOI's and grant numbers to your ORCID iD.

Connect other identifiers

Unlike other closed systems, for-profit researcher profiles, ORCID works well with a variety of other systems. Connect your ORCID iD with:

  • ResearcherID
  • Scopus Author Identifier
  • Other systems can speak with ORCID. These include: MyNCBI, Faculty of 1000, Elsevier publishing, etc.
