ORCID

ORCID is a not-for-profit organization; its name is an acronym which stands for "Open Research and Contributor ID." An ORCID identifier is a unique personal ID. Using an ORCID iD will uniquely distinguish you and your contributions whether you change your name, begin work at a different institution, move to another country, or retire.

Creating your ORCID profile:

Registering for an ORCID iD is free. Go to https://orcid.org/register
You should receive a welcome message from ORCID which asks you to verify your e-mail address.
Fill in the Biography information (e.g., employment, education, membership and services, funding, works, etc.).
Select your visibility and notification settings.
You can link DOI's and grant numbers to your ORCID iD.

Connect other identifiers

Unlike other closed systems, for-profit researcher profiles, ORCID works well with a variety of other systems. Connect your ORCID iD with:

ResearcherID
Scopus Author Identifier
Other systems can speak with ORCID. These include: MyNCBI, Faculty of 1000, Elsevier publishing, etc.
