About Dr. Aaker

This year, we congratulate Dr. Benjamin Aaker, MD, FACEP, Director, Scholarship Pathways Program and Director of Clinical Integration at the USD Sanford School of Medicine, for his support of the Wegner Library and librarians. He was photographed with what he describes as one of his favorite books, The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth About Extraordinary Results, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.  Dr. Aaker describes the book as a “quick read because there is only one topic-focus. If you are like me, you spend most days going from thing to thing, putting out fires. Keller and Papasan taught me the importance of focus on the one thing that makes the most difference in my life. Steps include learning to say 'no' and creating an environment that supports goals. It's had a huge impact on me and is an easy must-read for anyone trying to improve their life.” Dr. Aaker is an emergency physician at Avera Sacred Heart in Yankton, SD.

About

         Wegner Library READ Poster Award

The American Library Association developed the first "READ" poster over forty years ago, and numerous libraries have since used them to encourage reading and celebrate accomplishments in their communities. In 2022, the Wegner Health Sciences Library created the annual READ Poster Award to highlight the importance of information literacy and honor the library's many supporters.

The Wegner Library READ Poster Award recognizes at least one library supporter each year by featuring their image on a poster and displaying it in the library. Nominations are accepted at any time, but they should be submitted no later than the last Friday in February for that year's award. Winners are announced in the fall of that year. Anyone who is a regular user of Wegner Library's resources, or who supports the library in any way, is eligible for nomination.
