Music - Guide to Research

The purpose of this guide is to organize the most relevant USD Library resources for students, staff and faculty within the discipline of Music.

Browsing the Stacks

Music materials at the University Libraries can be found on the third floor under the call numbers M, ML, and MT. Find the call number for your instrument and browse our stacks for music to play! Or, find the call number for your favorite type of book.  (My personal favorite is biographies of musicians, ML410.) Enjoy the vast resources available for you at the University Libraries!

M – Music Scores
ML – Books, information about music
MT – Music Education

Most libraries in the United States use the Library of Congress classification. Therefore, if you become familiar with this arrangement of materials for music, you will be able to find materials quickly and easily not only at USD, but also at most major libraries in the U.S. See the full Library of Congress call numbers for music
