Digital Scholarship & Research Services: Data Management and Sharing

Overview

There are new guidelines for all researchers applying for NIH funds in 2023. With the goal of fostering data stewardship and creating a cultural change for sharing practices, researchers must submit a Data Management and Sharing Plan with their grant applications beginning January 25, 2023. Compliance will influence future funding decisions. Additional information can be found here.

Does the new DMP requirement apply to me?

The DMS Policy applies to all research that generates scientific data, including:

  • Research Projects
  • Some Career Development Awards (Ks)
  • Small Business SBIR/STTR 
  • Research Centers

The DMS Policy does not apply to research and other activities that do not generate scientific data, including:

  • Training (T)
  • Fellowships (Fs)
  • Construction (C06)
  • Conference Grants (R13)
  • Resource (Gs)
  • Research-Related Infrastructure Programs (e.g., S06)
